Supported project of Katrien Remaut : Messenger RNA (mRNA) delivery to the retina has enormous potential for the treatment of numerous eye diseases. mRNA can however also induce an unwanted immune response. After successful in vitro optimisation of lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) for mRNA delivery this project will focus on two key aspects after intravitreal injection of LNPs in mice, namely (i) the degree, duration and location of protein expression and (ii) the toxicity (immunogenicity) of the formulations and how to prevent this.
