Social justice & poverty

Supporting initiatives that help the most vulnerable. Encouraging new approaches to reduce the risks of poverty and improve social cohesion.

In Belgium, 20% of the population is considered to be at risk of poverty and social exclusion. This phenomenon, which has been aggravated by the COVID-19 crisis, remains a major challenge in our society. Moreover, it is taking new forms, such as digital exclusion and downward social mobility, all of which require our attention.

Since it was created in 1976, fighting poverty has been among the King Baudouin Foundation’s priority themes. We support projects that come to the aid of the most vulnerable and we initiate new approaches to fighting poverty and improving social cohesion. Our activities are complementary to those of government bodies and enjoy means generously provided, via the Foundation, by numerous philanthropists.
