Finding a cut-off level to use QuikRead CRP testing as a screening tool for upper urinary tract infection in the febrile well-appearing infant at the emergency department.

Brussels - Laeken
Project lead by Inge Roggen : 'The objective of this study is to investigate if CRP (C-reactive protein) point-of-care testing could be used as a screening tool instead of urinalysis to rule out a urinary tract infection (UTI) in the febrile well-appearing infant (by determining a CRP level below which no UTI is found). This could help to reduce waiting time in the emergency room (no need to wait for a urine sample), the number of unnecessary urethral catheterizations and the prescription of unnecessary empiric antibiotics'
