What is it about?

The Bürgerfonds Ostbelgien is a fund by East Belgians for East Belgians (Community Foundation) and supports initiatives and organisations that work for fellow citizens, true to the motto "Making a difference together":

  • Social engagement: supporting initiatives that work to help individuals and families in vulnerable situations, to reduce the risk of poverty and to strengthen social cohesion. Support for initiatives that work to improve the quality of life and inclusion of people with disabilities and their families, for senior citizens, children and young people, especially those from poor backgrounds, and for migration, integration and inclusion.
  • Education and training: Promoting initiatives that help shape the future of our society through practical and dynamic education and training.
  • Creativity and entrepreneurship: Promoting creativity among children and young people, as well as entrepreneurship in East Belgium.
  • Heritage preservation: perpetuating the essential elements of our heritage in order to pass them on and make them accessible to the public. Facilitating innovative projects of a local dimension involving natural, architectural, movable and cultural heritage.
  • Cultural engagement: promoting interest in music and the stage arts.
  • Regional development: promoting regional development, especially in the fields of environment and waste prevention, energy, and rural development.

Our operational area is the living and creative space of the East Belgians. This includes the 9 municipalities (Eupen, Kelmis, Lontzen, Raeren, St. Vith, Amel, Büllingen, Bütgenbach and Burg-Reuland) and all neighbouring municipalities in Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg.
