Jan (Venlo, NL, 1995) is interested in the unintentional traces people make and leave during everyday activities: the woodworker silhouetting his tools on the wall of his workspace, the builder scribbling annotations on-site, kids gradually peeling off an ad stuck on a window or a friend leaving a sweet note behind. He is also fascinated by the formality and the bureaucratic of the paper-based world, always summary and to the point, with what he calls “the urge to laminate.” He was selected by the jury for his presentation combining acrylics and collage, discarded papers and official documents, found objects and memories, plastic files and office magnets, often on simple MDF or whiteboard. They capture private moments and day-to-day occurrences, gestures, messages and feelings, archived in composition and colour.
