The Energy Poverty Barometer (2017). An initiative of the Platform Against Energy Poverty
In 2015, 21 % of Belgian households were affected by energy poverty. This third edition of the Barometer gives figures and analyses of trends by region.
What is it about?
In 2015, 14.5% of Belgian households devoted too high a share of their income to energy expenditure. A further 4% of households restricted their energy consumption. Households with the lowest incomes, tenants, single-person households, especially women living alone and aged 65 or more, and single-parent families were the most affected. The Barometer gives regional breakdowns and analyses trends.
The complexity of current energy bills is often a further headache for these families. To help find a remedy, the Platform Against Energy Poverty has undertaken a reflection on simplifying the energy bill in order to identify good practices and to make recommendations.
