EMMA is a home-based counselling service for young teenage mothers in Ayacucho, Peru. These girls, aged between 12 and 18, became mothers far too young. Many grew up in the disadvantaged neighbourhoods around the city and became victims of sexual violence or went in search of a partner who would give them a better future. 

Schools in Peru did not open in 2019 and education will continue to be organised online in 2020. Due to the loss of their income in the city by COVID-19, many families are moving back to the countryside. The link with the EMMA project and the online education can only be maintained via a smartphone, a luxury that many of these families do not have, especially the most vulnerable ones. 

With the support of the New Life Fund, the EMMA project will be able to purchase 70 smartphones and support these girls and their young children in the areas of health, well-being, positive parenting, violence prevention, education and much more.
