From the skeleton of a prehistoric animal to a masterpiece by Wolfers: some of KBF’s exhibits at BRAFA have to be seen
The skeleton of a large prehistoric animal may not be what you expect to see at an art fair. This year, however, that is exactly what you will find on the King Baudouin Foundation's stand at BRAFA. Alongside it you will find Medusa, an iconic work by Wolfers, and a number of other impressive Belgian heritage pieces.
The biggest eyecatcher on the stand is a skeleton of a woolly rhinoceros that lived in the Ice Age. The Foundation does not receive a donation like that every day! This excellently preserved fossil has a fascination for people of all ages. KBF has given it on loan to the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences.
Another superb item is the Medusa necklace. This masterpiece by Philippe Wolfers is internationally recognised as an icon of art nouveau jewellery. It has now been purchased by the King Baudouin Foundation's Heritage Fund so it will be preserved for everyone to enjoy, and it will have a place in the Wolfers store at the Art & History Museum in Brussels. You can see it in advance at BRAFA, alongside numerous other works of art by Wolfers and Horta. Just a foretaste of the coming ‘year of art nouveau’ in 2023!
Do you like ancient works of art, or do you prefer modern and contemporary art? There is something for everyone in KBF’s diverse collection. A 17th century View of Antwerp and 18th century decorative items from the renowned Looz collection, which are being publicly exhibited for the first time at BRAFA, can be seen in dialogue with contemporary porcelain by Piet Stockmans, abstract art by Wyckaert and Drybergh, and a superb piece by world famous Belgian artist Pol Bury.
Come and immerse yourself in culture, take some time out to enjoy our impressive Belgian heritage, or attend a fascinating BRAFA ART Talk: this year the King Baudouin Foundation will be hosting the BRAFA ART TALKS at its stand.
You will find us at stand 115.
Enclosed (under ‘Additional information’) is a summary of all the works of art that are on display at the King Baudouin Foundation’s stand.
